Custom molecular biology

Biohagen Labs is a molecular biology contract research organization (CRO) in Copenhagen, Denmark. We help biotech and pharma teams build the molecular tools they need to test a hypothesis, establish a model or advance an experimental workflow. Each project is scoped around your biological question and the evidence you need.

Cloning, RNA workflows and cell engineering

Our capabilities include advanced DNA cloning, mutagenesis, custom plasmid and vector design, and knock-in and knock-out strategies. We work with in vitro transcription (IVT) and RNA synthesis, including mRNA, circRNA and non-coding RNA. Cellular workflows include transfection, electroporation, lentiviral and retroviral transduction, and cell line engineering using CRISPR, RNAi or overexpression. We also work with bacterial and insect protein expression systems. We select methods to suit the construct, model and downstream application.

What your project can include

A project can combine molecular tool generation with experimental checks and functional readouts. The agreed scope can include protocols, quality-control data, method reports and interpretation of the results. For engineered models, we discuss the genotype and functional evidence needed for your intended assay. We can combine molecular biology work with assay development and data analysis when they address the same research question.

How to get started

Tell us what you want to build or test. If helpful, include the model system, materials you already have and any timing constraints. We can work through the technical details together.

Common questions

Can you combine molecular biology with a functional assay?

Yes. Our capabilities cover molecular engineering, cell-based experiments and custom assay development. A combined project can link molecular tool generation to a functional readout, with the model, controls and decision criteria agreed during scoping.

Where is the laboratory based?

Biohagen operates from dedicated laboratory space at BRIC, University of Copenhagen, in Denmark. We use our own bench infrastructure and access shared facilities as each project requires. The About page explains which equipment is in-house, which infrastructure is hosted by BRIC and which core facilities we can access.
